About Me
I am Luis Chachayma, a Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Kansas in 2018. I previously earned a degree in Electronics Engineering at the ‘Pontificia Universidad Católica Del Perú’ in 2014.
After my graduation in Perú, I worked in the area of Substation Automation and Controls at ABB Group in Lima, Perú, for one year and another year for a subcontractor. During this time, I worked with Substation Automation Systems. I focused on the design of SCADA systems for the operation and supervision of high voltage electrical substations in power generation, distribution and transmission. This involved the integration of a variety of automation equipment, in particular: PLCs, protection relays, firewalls, switches, RTUs, etc. Meanwhile, I was a graduate teaching assistant at my Alma mater, for an Electrical Machines undergrad course.
Afterwards working in my home country, I decided to pursue a second degree in the USA. While earning my degree I interned for Standard Motor Products Corporation in their Independence, Kansas office during the summer of 2017. After I graduated from the University of Kansas, I got a full-time job offer from Standard Motor Products where I am involved in various projects including the development of Part Testers and Part assembly automated stations for different automotive components such as: Oil pressure sensors, throttle sensors, temperature sensors, knock sensors, solenoids, etc. I also develop environmental automated tests to make sure our parts have the expected quality
On the other hand, as a personal project, I am working on a Driving Aid System that provides information about the road conditions and surroundings to the driver. I am using Convolutional Neural Networks for object detection and OpenCV for lane detection. The system will run on a NVIDIA embedded board.
Because of my professional experiences I had, I found that I am very passionate about the automotive and automation industry, and I am always looking for ways to improve processes and learn new technologies.
